Nirmaan

Project Nirmaan is our endeavour to create a meaningful and promising life for children in vulnerable situations like begging, garbage picking, gambling & drug abuse.

The effort begins with the rescue of these children and providing them day long care and protection focusing on their physical and mental health through hygiene, education, creative activities & skill training and most importantly building up their self-respect by providing them a happy and healthy environment.

The children are also provided nutritious food, weather-appropriate clothing, books, stationery and medical care. The project culminates in initiating them into appropriate vocational skills according to their aptitude and interest so that they can become independent and get integrated into mainstream society.

1. Education

Education is the key to growth and success. We, at Shubhakshika, cater to the children’s academic, mental and emotional growth. We follow a three-tier system (namely Bridge course, Basic education and Education through NIOS) based on their age and academic merit. We provide:

  • Bridge courses for school drop outs for reinduction into formal schooling.
  • Basic education to facilitate fast promotion for street children who have never been to school. Thus, they are brought to a level at par with formal school standards, followed by admission to age-appropriate classes in schools.

5. Social Empowerment of Children

We make an all-out effort to rehabilitate children and integrate them into the mainstream of society. After identifying their strong points, we help them pursue their interests and dreams.

  • Attempts are made to inculcate values like sharing, caring, team-work and train them to shoulder responsibilities and learn division of work through activities like taking turns to serve food, helping to maintain cleanliness and discipline etc.
  • The children are trained in self-dependence through workshops on "wash your own clothes", "clean your dishes", "cook your food" etc.
  • The children are engaged in healthy social interaction through workshops on communication skills.
  • An effort is made to create general awareness about current affairs, environment, cleanliness; the children are also motivated to strive for peace and harmony through celebration of religious and national festivals, special days like Tobacco Day, World Environment Day, Yoga Day, World Laughter Day etc.
  • The children are sensitized to gender equality through activities like weekly cooking by both boys and girls.
  • Bal Panchayat: this activity is held once a month to provide children a learning experience in democratic values. They hear grievances as elected members of the children, pronounce judgements and ensure their implementation. A collective voice is a strong voice.
